White Sands Shirt
Designed and Printed June 2025
In response to my partner and I’s roadtrip through the Southwestern United States, with White Sands National Park being one of the primary stops along the way, I wanted to test myself by designing and printing a shirt that could serve as a theoretical memento for visitors to the surreal landscape in central New Mexico. I’m a bit averse to calling it a souvenir, just as I was averse in the design to referring to White Sands as a National Park, or National anything, as I want this project to hint towards a future apart from the borders and policies of a national US government and towards a decentralized and decolonized appreciation and preservation for the land and ecosystem.
In order to create the design, I used one of my own photographs of the undulating, pristine sand, and hand-set the text to create a stamp-like effect. I only printed enough shirts for my partner and I, honoring the strengthening of our bond through this shared experience.
